Today we did a project on our digital footprint. I had the opportunity to learn how to make my Facebook profile a lot more private. I learned that even though I believed that my settings were private they really were not. Anyone who looked me up on Facebook could see my posts, pictures, age, gender, and timeline. Thankfully I was able to change them so they were a lot more private. Now nobody can see my profile unless you are a friend. If you guys want to know if you are private on Facebook you should go to life hacker.com and clean up your Facebook. So what do you think, are you private on Facebook?
http://slant.investorplace.com/2013/09/facebook-stock-fb/ Digital citizenship is a term describing how you should act online. What you do online is available for everyone to see even if you have privacy settings on. Most people take pictures and videos and post it on the internet without thinking, this is not good. If you post something inappropriate to the internet it is there for everyone to see and it can affect you in the future. A lot of businesses will search you on the internet to see what comes up and if it is bad then they may not hire you. It is very dangerous posting online because you never know who is looking at it. Here is a link to what digital citizenship is.
A key strategy for what you should and should not post online is if you have to think twice on what you are posting then it probably is not a good idea to post it. Not everyone will think before they post and before you know it everybody is looking at it. When posting online always be careful so maybe its not a good idea to post you in a bar drinking or anything like that. It is currently a big issue every where and the better you are at watching what you post the better your life will be. Valentines originated in the 5th century in Rome. It started as a Christian feast day and was originally called St. Valentines day. A pope started the holiday to honor someone named St. Valentine, however historians are not quite sure who he was honoring they do know that there were three people named St. Valentine that had died on February 14th. It was not util the 14th century that this feast day was associated with love. Around the 18th century in England was where and when people began exchanging gifts and home made cards for the special occasion. Today around 25% of all cards are sent as valentines.
There are many myths of how St. Valentine was associated with Valentines day and as of right now no one truly knows what really happened. One myth is that Claudius the 2nd banned people form getting married at a young age because he strongly believed that the young men should become soldiers instead. St. Valentine who was a Roman Priest decided to go against his ruling and let them get illegally married. He was later put to death for his actions. Another myth is that St. Valentine was apprehended by Claudius but he fell in love with Claudius's daughter and right before he was put to death he sent a letter to his love saying "from your valentine". Another myth is that St. Valentine was not focused on Eros which is passionate love and instead focused on agape which is Christian love. He was then put to death for refusing to renounce his religion. Link to my source on Valentines day. Just recently I watched the CBC doc zone called "Facebook Follies". There was lots of information from this doc zone about what happens if you or someone you know posts a picture of you doing something embarrassing on the internet. There were many lessons to be learned from this specific doc zone and I am about to talk about some of them. The biggest lesson to be learned from this is to watch what you do and post to Facebook. Everything that gets posted on the internet is there for ever so that embarrassing picture that you think is gone from the internet can come back to haunt you in the future.
The internet can mess up your opportunity to get a job and it can even put you and your family at risk. If you post something on Facebook a lot of business owners will check your Facebook page before they hire you and if they see you doing something or saying something on the internet that can be harmful to their business they will not hire you. When you post something to the internet it is very easy for people who you do not know to see that. There have been cases of people posting to their Facebook saying that they are going on vacation and a criminal took advantage of that and when they were on vacation they robbed the house. In conclusion you should definitely watch what you put on Facebook because it does have lots of problems and you do not want to put you, your friends, and your family in danger. Change your settings and think before you post. Link to "Facebook Follies" |
